Default Wondering what these might be worth

So my father-in-law has decided to get out of RC (He was the one that dragged me back in). Having said that I have a LOT of planes, engines, kits, ARFs and various other things on my basement now. I will be listing it ALL, but before I did that I thought I would ask what anyone thought some of these were worth as most are OOP. And yes the ones listed twice means there are two of them

Here is what I have in the speed realm::

Weston UK magnum R

122 views of the thread and no one has any input?

I got a couple PMs (but no notification of the PMs) wanting some stuff but no input on what it might be worth.

Pete, I'll try to find example pricing on the kits I was interested in. I'm a bit horny to see the engine list.

I will try and get a list of engines together tonight. Some engines are out of airframes and some are in. I have no problem pulling an engine for someone.

Here is a pic of about 3/4s of the stuff in my garage,

People will be wary of giving price estimates, as I am. Some of the motors, and kits, are still available, or similar, like the OS LA .40 is now a .46, Norvels are still priced. You can see how much they are going for at a hobby shop, and drop the price a bit, as there is no warranty (no tax either). Used stuff, you can divide the price in half. I can see why no one wants to give a price. I know from hot rods, that there are prices that it costs to build from a kit, at full retail, plus all parts from retailers. Then paint at shop prices, labour at $100 an hour... It can get high at 2,000 hours. Appraisers go by used prices of parts, and don't count labour. Then there is a price that it actually cost from wreckers. You can go by the price at a well advertised large auction, and then what you could get at a local paper, or auction or website like Craigslist in say a week. The numbers can be anywhere from $5,000 to $150,000+ for the same car. I would check ebay for similar stuff though, as the prices can go quite high there compared to other sources. I have got many motors listed for less than $20, some for $5, but often see them at swap meets at $80 at the end of the swap meet unsold. The Saitos, and Jetts of course are not in that range.

Its the beauty of the free market economy. I have a lot of familiarity with hotrods as well. The Model A Ford Roadster sold for $385 brand new but I would love to know where to buy one for less than that since its out of production. I know that is not what you you were thinking when you said divide the price in half and used the hotrod analogy but a hobby is a hobby and what one person thinks is a fair price is not necessarily what another might consider which is why I asked for actual price input.

I have spent the time while waiting doing some research on this subject and the Diamond Dust is good for $100 on a well known auction site. Having said that I think its a really stiff price for what it is so I will again ask the speed plane guys for what they think this stuff is worth....quantify...... a Magnum R is worth X.

Otherwise it will be a lot of auctions and that is painful for all involved.

As an aside if you know where I can get a steel Model A for less than it was available for sale new please let me know as I would love to be able to support that HOBBY for less than free market economy dictates the actual price should be.

Yep, then there is the passage of time too. In 1928, a good job may have paid $1 a day. I don't know, I wasn't around then. Had a Shay Model A though.

Scratched a few off the list (MJD got me some good info on pricing and wanted a couple planes)

Thanks for the PMs guys. I have some idea of what I am dealing with now. Guess I will just have to put a garage sale ad here and see how it goes. If anyone sees anything they want or would like a comprehensive list of ALL the planes since I only listed the speed planes above....just email directly.

pcosky at comcast dot net

Also I have a rubbermaid tote with NIP Jett mufflers, used headers, and tuned pipes. There are 3 big boxes of new rolls of covering (monokote and ultracote), 15 RTF planes of which most have never flown. and boxes of props, hardware, servos, hinges.....To put this in perspective I have been in hobby shops with less stock than I brought back from my father in laws house. If you need ANYTHING please ask. I was told to keep anything I wanted but I have not put a single flight up in 2 years due to work so I would really like to put all this stuff in the hands of guys who will use it.

Being a speed freak most of my planes have Jett engines... a few have .O.S. 25FX . & 32 SX
I personally have no use for the "LA & FP" series of engines.

The new .32SX $120 ( the current .35AX is $155) used about $60-75 */- 10%

the big problem today is shipping costs.. And the post office just raised their rates again.
Places Like Tower get some kind of discount and get $ to put ads in with your order.

Local swap meets in the Detroit MI area have been crap for sellers getting 50-60% or street retail on NIB 20-25% on nice used stuff.
Did not go to Toledo Show this year, but I was in Toledo, I was working on my house I have to sell or rent.

Selling on Ebarf good luck... Fees.. selling listing have gone up! AND NOW FEES on Shipping too! Not one time has Ebarf offer to take my shipments to UPS of FED-EX for me and their shipping calculator has undercharged too.

Not an attempt at hijacking your thread!!

Not sticking up for Fleabay, but the reason they started putting the fees on shipping was because people would sell a $300 item for $10 and charge $290 for shipping. That way, they only had to pay the listing fee, and the small percentage from the $10 sale, and no fees for the shipping, so in essence they were cheating the system.. That's why they added the fee to the shipping charges!! A few scammers caused it!!

And no, I Don't work for them, nor have I ever sold anything through them, I have only made purchases through them!

Back on the Subject at hand!!

I have seen some new and untouched kits go out for a pretty penny, such as a Pica Duelist 240 going for over $300, Airtronics Jetfire .40 upwards of $200.. But putting good estimates of a kits value is nearly impossible, especially for out of production kits!! Just like the old adage says "Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder", a Kits Value is only as much as someone is willing to pay!! I know that's not what you really want to hear, but unfortunately it's the truth!! However, like what was stated before, don't expect much more than about 50 to 60 percent!

Craig

Yeah I saw a good lot of the low price but way high shipping costs.......I actually support eBay on the adding of fees on shipping costs. Circumventing the actual rules is why people get pinched.

On a side note I will be listing the COMPLETE list of planes not just speed planes, engines, covering and bits and pieces here and RC Groups before I go to Ebarf.

I still have a ton of stuff. If anyone is really interested please just PM me with your email address and I will email you a list.

I received the feedback I needed on worth of these items. I just haven't had the time to photograph everything due to work so I haven't put up the listing in the for sale section yet. That whole work thing gets in the way of fun all the time.

BTW - Watts you have a PM.

Hi Pete - can you send me the list? Just in case there was something good I missed..

The Bobcat is in the middle of turbine conversion :-).. nearly finished fabricating the aluminum mount, the rest is coming along and is not a big deal mostly ARF assembly with a few added bits.

Waiting for a Novarossi 3.5 for the Shrike 10.
